The whole world is talking about global warming. It might be true that the global temperatures are going higher every year. Yet there are a few things I do not understand in this subject:
- USA and Europe are having the strongest and longest lasting winter in 30 years.
- The Philippines summer started already several weeks ago, normaly in March. Temperatures are every day 33° C or more. normal in January and February is 25 to 27.
- Why there is window shield de-icer sold in the Philippines?
I have found this container de-icer in a store in Manila a few weeks ago.
What does this mean? Or is this a protest against global warming?
Help me to find out why? Reactions are very welcome.

It is essential to distinguish between ‘weather’ and ‘climate’. Weather is measured from year to year and shows considerable variation. Climate is measured over thirty year periods. The talk about global warming refers to climate.

In the Pacific during the Second World War air crews would use the chemicals in de-icers form airplanes to construct homemade ice boxes. This could be someone with doing the same thing. I will ask around when I arrive. :chic:

I’m sure it is not used for that. It is just an aerosol containing de-icer for window shields of cars. They are usually sold in countries like northern Europe USA and Canada. Countries where winters are cold and the car windows are covered with ice. The de-icer transforms the ice in water and can be wiped.
I found this de-icer in a dump store in Manila, the funny part is that it is never freezing cold in the Philippines.
Maybe they are planning ahead.
Probably somebody just stuck it in a box they sent.
Wonder if it would work to de-ice a freezer? Maybe that’s what it is for.
Global Warming and Climate Change is the biggest environmental issue that we face these days. the long term effects of these environmental changes to a nations economy is quite damaging. there would be a shortage in food supply as well as on water supply too.

Their governments should be the first to take action FAST.
My personal opinion is that Anthropomorphic Global Warming (AGW) is a farce committed by the scientific community in collusion with world politicians to find a way to tax poor people into oblivion.
The last 10 years of weather show a distinct cooling pattern (With the exception of a couple years of spikes).
As for carbon (Dioxide or other) causing global warming, what happens when a major volcanic eruption spews tons of carbon into the atmosphere? Think about St. Helens and Pinatubo in our lifetimes, there were several years of climate COOLING in relation to these events. So why would man made carbons be any different than naturally emitted carbons? Man doesn’t produce nearly the amount of carbon that the world’s active volcanoes produce on an annual basis. Are we going to tax countries with more active volcanoes more for their carbon emissions?

I agree with you that mother earth releases more carbon dioxide than all cars and factories together. But that’s a natural thing. Ourr environment was in a kind of balance.
After we invented engines who use oil and other resources to do their job, the exhaust of carbon dioxide has increased too much and has distubed the natural balance. I think we should not worry that as much as those environmental organisations say, but just be careful.

As for the de-icer, I have not the slightest clue why that is being sold in the Philippines. That is so funny!

Brandon stick to the facts:
1. Both NASA and the World Meteorological Organization have declared that the last decade is the hottest on record.
2. Volcanoes do NOT put more carbon dioxide into the air than is due to human activities.
3. The cooling caused by the eruption of Mount Pinatubo was due to volcanic ashes reflecting sunlight back into space – NOT by the carbon dioxide emitted by the volcano.

1. We only have accurate temprature records for the last hundred years or so.
Weather and climate are cyclic and are affected my numerous natural causes that we are only beginning to understand.
When the Romans invaded Britan Grape vines grew in the northern parts of the country. Do they grow there now? No it’s too cold.
When the Vikings settled in Greenland in around 900 AD they could grow crops there. Can you grow them there now? No its too cold.
So it was warmer than it is now in recorded history.
Is the climate changing? Very likely. Are we the cause? Oh what hubrus we have. We may be making contributions to push it along but we are hardly the entire reason.
What can we do about it? Probably not very much. Even if we stopped all man made carbon emissions tomorrow the count would continue to rise. That is not to say we wouldn’t all be better off if we reduce all types of pollution. So it is certainly a good thing to strive for.
Keep in mind the earth is 4.5 billion years old. We have accurate climate data for only the tiniest fraction of that time. We can get some climate data from ice and ocean cores but it still only covers a small fraction. Over 97% of all the species that ever lived are now extinct. We didn’t kill them all. We may someday join them if we don’t quit poisioning ourselves. There is really no reason to worry about saving the earth. It will be here long after we are gone.
That said. This is really about de-icer in a store in Manila. I’ll stick with my earlier guess. It was either sent by mistake or it is used to defrost the freezer. (OK that’s two guesses
)
