A few days ago we were in Marikina with a Brittish-Filipino couple. While going around we wanted to drink something and take a little rest. We went to Pan de Amerikana, a restaurant, bread shop and cafe in Marikina, barangay Conception Dos. The place is founded in 1950 as a bake shop where you can buy several kinds of fresh baked bread and pandesal. It has developed in a restaurant where one can have breakfast and lunch and even an early dinner. (closing time daily at 7 PM) They still sell the high quality pandesal and bread. Outside of the restaurant the decor is a windmill. Why a windmill ?? I do not know. The interior can best be described as very surprising. It is a kind of jungle garden with a pond containing several gold fish and koi. Many live plants and nice ornaments decorating the place. You have to see for your self. There are many tables tyo serve the customers, they even have a kind of easy chairs for just relaxing. One wall is made of glass with plants behind and in front of it. Along the glass water is running if it is a waterfall. It has a stage where a band can play and my [...]

Comments

March 2, 2010, Cas writes: Hallo Jan,

Our first day of this trip you can find here Day two, after our breakfast, we drove around again to find the local Mahogany market and other things. You will find Mahogany market: Coming from Rotonda direction Batangas. At the Petron station intersection go to the right and follow this street about 2 km. At your right is the Mahogany market where you can eat a good but simple lunch in one of the many restaurant stalls. For lunch we went to the Taaleña restaurant to eat some Filipino food. We enjoyed the view from the terrace much more than we enjoyed the food. The food we had was too expensive and the taste not good. We will never come back here. In the afternoon we went to the highest point of Tagaytay: the Peoples park in the sky. Aside from the view, which is nice, there’s not much to see. The building, a not finished palace, meant to be the staying place for president Ronald Reagan on his visit to the Philippines, but he cancelled the visit because of the unstable situation back in 1983, so the work stopped and the palace was never finished, although the place gives [...]

Comments

August 9, 2009, rienus ernst writes: at X-mas time we will go there

To celebrate our wedding anniversary we went a few days to Tagaytay. Tagaytay is known to be the second summer city of the Philippines and is only 55 km from Manila. The town is situated on the rim of the Taal lake. Taal (pronounced as: Ta-al) is the smallest active volcano in the world. Inside the actual crater of Taal is a lake with a small island. The Volcano itself is situated in an other lake (Lake Taal) on an Island (Luzon). According to vulcanologist the rim where Tagaytay is situated is a very old crater. So you can easily say that there is an island in a lake on an island in a lake on an island. We have booked a room in a small but very comfortable hotel. The Mi-Jo hotel is situated about 200 m from the main road through Tagaytay. Rooms are very comfortable, clean and with good beds. Prices vary from 1800 and up per night. It is advised to make reservations because the hotel is very much in demand. The staff is friendly and a small breakfast is included in the price. Some rooms have a refrigerator, and all have air conditioners (in case [...]

Comments

September 9, 2010, ludwig fuentebella writes: Hi Jan,

i would like to express my appreciation for your posts re: trips you made. i am a filipina but having malls around me made me forget about the beauty of my country and the simplicity it could offer without spending too much. thank you so much for that. on the other hand, it was also a big help for me right now since my boyfriend of two years will be visiting me for the first time and it helps to have your take about these places for the reason that you are seeing it on a different perspective which i would say would be my bf's perspective too considering that he hails from another country like you. i have been looking up for places to dine at in tagaytay and had read blogs and reviews about the restos that you had been to but your post convinced me big time to go to the following places in tagaytay...and if i may suggest that you check out sonya's garden on your next visit to tagagaytay...it's a wonderful place to retreat from the hussle and bussle of the metro... ^.^
