Noynoy AquinoToday a joint public session was held in the Batasang Pambansa buildings in Quezon city. The house of representatives and the senate together proclaimed Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Cojuangco Aquino III as the new president of the Philippines. The new vice-president will be Jejomar Binay.  June 30 will be the last day of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as president.

Aquino is a 50 year old bachelor. So there will be no first lady. There are talks that his sister Kris, a well known TV host, will fulfill these duties if necessary. Aquino has a girlfriend, but she is an elected councilor in Valenzuela city and the couple doesn’t have plans to get married yet.

While I was watching the ceremony live at tv suddenly a heavy thunderstorm with lots of lightning started over Manila and where we live. The connection from ABS-CBN with the Batasang Pambansa was disconnected for some reason. Some 30 seconds later we had a brown out which took about 45 minutes.
Let’s hope that this thunderstorm is no bad omen for his presidency. But everybody is convinced that he will have a hard time trying to make the country flourishing again like it was in the 50′s.
The wide spread corruption is one of his main issues to handle.

I wish him a lot of wisdom.
